Housing Complex Navez/Portaels - 12.006

Complete structural engineering study

The construction of 5 passive apartments was built for the Navez/Portaels neighbourhood city revitalisation project in Brussels. The building marks the intrance of the city and the quarter.

Specific features

The Northward orientation of the plot allowed the architect to design the apartements in cantilever over de sidewalks. In this way the spaces southwards permit to create terraces. A thick concrete slab over the first floor and walls at the rear facade allows to free the interior space of structural elements and to continue with a traditional structure at the top floors. The organization of the apartments, in duplex and crossing the building, is articulated around a prefab concrete staircase with a special and complex design.
