Complete mission for c & s engineering.

Concept

The Belval office Building consists of two wings surrounding a central atrium, the social heart of the building. Like a central spine that runs like a snake through the spaces and green terraces, this monumental space connects the boulevard “Porte de France » and the main square. The office building offers a spectacular view of the historic blast furnaces of Belval. The total constructed useable area is 18,800 m², of which 3,000 m ² is reserved for co-working and 800m ² is dedicated to commercial areas and restaurants. In addition to the flexibility of the spaces and the occupancy, the emphasis is put on sustainability aspects and a BREEAM label level excellent is being sought.

Specific features

The building volume is encased in an orthogonal grid forming the façade. The façade and roof unify and highlight the clear structural grid. Architectural concrete dominates both inside and outside, thereby reinforcing the brutal character of the site and his industrial past. A facade cladding in architectural concrete is attached to the structure of the buildings and the skin of the columns and floor slabs is left visible in the atrium. Flat slabs are used throughout and facilitate the passage of the techniques. Locally the slabs are made lighter by using void formers. This avoid inefficient material usage and reduce the load on the large spans. The choice and design of the foundation system takes into account the potential risk of soil swelling characteristic of the mudstone soil at Belval.
