St Omer station canopy - 12.038

Complete mission for civil and structural engineering.

Refurbishment of the public space in front of the station of Saint-Omer. This public space project is a continuation of the master plan created by SumProject before. The goal is to transform the station environment to a multimodal attractor. The project consists of conceiving a simple canopy for the bus station with high architectural qualities that related to the existing train station's building and architecture.

Specific features

The bus stop has a functional form and is optimized to facilitate arrival and departure of buses. The goal of the new canopy is to raise to level of comfort for travelers. For that reason a rectangular roof (60m x 10m) covers the entire platform. In order to obtain visual calmness the roof is flat and supported by circular columns. The height of the canopy corresponds to that of the canopy of the train station. The longitudinal beams are supported by 14 stainless steel columns, with integrated water evacuation. The roof consists of a series of extruded, anodized aluminum profiles with symmetrical S-shape. Laminated toughened glass panels are placed between the S-shaped profiles. The glass is transparent and accessible for maintenance purposes. This creates a light and covered public space.
